A simple explanation of whether to use Advice or Advise.

When to use Advice or Advice can be quite tricky, as both words are spelt in a similar way but do not sound the same.

ADVICE

It’s used to give a suggestion on something that could be done or to inform.

One can ask for advice or give it

Could you give me some advice, on which cleaning products is the best for cleaning windows?

Pascal, I need your advice please, what do you think Catherine would like for her birthday.

My advice to you, is to go to bed early and get a good night’s sleep. You’ll feel better in the morning.

It’s used to give a recommendation or advise on what should be done

To advise is actually giving a person advice on what they should do.

Er advised – we’re advising, etc.
